Assessment in clinical setting

The course equips students with a range of knowledge and core skills in conducting clinical assessment, such as history-taking, mental state examination, and professional issues related to assessment in the clinical setting, informed by current evidence-based practice and research. The focus of this course goes beyond the medical model of assessment to address the multidimensionality nature of mental health issues from a systemic, bio-psycho-social perspective by paying attention to factors predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating the presenting problems. The course emphasizes on strengthening students’ competence in conducting clinical assessment, deriving multidimensional case formulation and deploying strategic-holistic treatment plan for common mental health issues. To broaden the students understanding of clinical assessment, the state-of-the-art and evidence-based assessment practices using different art modalities will be introduced. In addition, the course also focuses on enhancing students’ awareness and critical appraisals of current issues related to assessment in clinical setting. Assessment: 100% coursework
