Prof. WONG H.Y. Gloria

Associate Professor

My academic goal is to improve mental health in society through scientific methods. At a time when humanity faces many enormous challenges, I am keen to bring perspectives of different cultural and sociopolitical contexts to understand and respond to mental (ill-)health. This is built on three inter-related lines of inquiry: (1) care innovations for people with psychotic disorders; (2) non-pharmacological intervention and support for people with dementia; and (3) preventive mental health in youth and older persons. These areas converge to the question about the role of self and personhood in psychopathology and psychosocial interventions across cultures and populations. Transferring research knowledge to the real-world, I lead several large-scale projects on developing and evaluating mental health services and policy, and capacity building initiatives for helping professionals and volunteers in mental health care, to enable wider implementation and scaling up of evidence-based services.
