Prof. Luo H.

Assistant Professor

Prof. Hao Luo is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration and Assistant Professor (by courtesy) at the Department of Computer Science, The University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on big data analytics in ageing and mental health. She is interested in investigating the nature, causes and consequences of critical health and mental health conditions, and in evaluating the effectiveness and risks of treatments and interventions for these conditions. The outcomes and conditions of her special interest include dementia, depression, self-harm, and suicide. Many of her recent works involve using large-scale electronic health records and administrative data to solve ageing and mental health challenges.

Holding a PhD in Statistics, Prof. Luo started her research by investigating methodological issues encountered when applying latent variable models in the social sciences. Her solid background in statistics later enabled her to apply state-of-the-art analytics to complex health and social care data with high scientific rigor. Her expertise has fostered extensive interdisciplinary collaborations, resulting in funded external projects she leads or co-leads amounting to over HK$27 million. Her research has led to over 50 peer-reviewed articles.
