Abstract
Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) is a methodology that is increasingly used in social sciences, and by social work researchers in particular. CBPR is an umbrella term that encompasses a variety research methodologies, including: participatory research, participatory action research, feminist participatory research, action research, and collaborative inquiry. In this session, you will learn:
i) guiding principles of CBPR (the “mindset” behind the approach)
ii) stages / phases of CPBR (the “how to”)
iii) about and example of how CBPR simulation with others in the session.
iv) experientially through a mini CBPR simulation with others in the session.
CBPR is not only for academics, but an approach that can be realized by practitioners. This session is not a comprehensive workshop on CBPR, but more so an introductory session. It is an invitation to spark the discussion on CBPR, the invite researchers, practitioners, and others to continue the dialogue on the possibilities of learning more about and facilitating their own CBPR projects.
