Applicants shall have a Bachelor degree (Hons) from HKU or an equivalent qualification from comparable institutions. Those with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants’ abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted. Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required (unless exceptionally exempted) to obtain:
TOTEL and IELTS score reports are valid for two years only. For example, if you submit your application form on Oct 6, 2023, then only the report of the TOEFL/IELTS test taken after Oct 7, 2021 is considered valid.
1. Application
To apply for the MSW programme, please apply via http://www.aal.hku.hk/tpg/
2. Written Test assessment
When shortlisted candidates are invited to the written test assessment, please submit the following required documents to The Department of Social Work and Social Administration by hand on the date of admission written test. Your application number should be marked on each document. Transcripts, diplomas, certificates, English language official score reports and other submitted documents which are NOT in English should be accompanied by a certified translation in English. The certified translation may be provided by your home institution.
For applicants with Mainland qualification, you are advised to submit the Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (Both Chinese and English version) issued by CHSI (学信网) / CHESICC (全国高等学校学生信息咨询与就业指导中心) to replace the certified true copy of the Graduation Certificate.
* Please note that the University will only ACCEPT originals or copies of the documents that have been duly declared as true copies before a notary public (e.g. a Commissioner for Oaths at a District Office in Hong Kong). Copies of documents may be certified by the appropriate officials of your home institute if you are an overseas applicant. No photocopies will be accepted.
For overseas applicants, please post the following required documents directly to the Department of Social Work and Social Administration. 2-year full-time mode: HK$140,300 per annum (Local)*
2-year full-time mode: HK$170,900 per annum (Non-local) *
3-year part-time mode: HK$94,700 per annum (Local)*

The definition of non-local student:
Students holding:
(a) student visa / entry permit;
(b) visa / entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates; or
(c) dependant visa / entry permit who were 18 years old or above when you are issued with such visa / entry permit by the Director of Immigration.
Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for written test and/or an interview.
